"Dragon Post" Cat Tails and Joe Pye Weed
The dragonflies always perch on the highest point they can find in marshy areas so they are poised to dive on unsuspecting insects. This one has posed on top of a cat tail. The first cat tails I used to paint this from, too-soon turned to fluff! I had to run and collect more to get the details right. The purple joe-pye weed flowers grow in many damp areas from creek edges to roadside ditches.
