Born in Washington DC, Sharon Himes lives on the Eastern Shore of Maryland where she pursues her interests into art and nature.

Himes has a varied background with experience in radio and television production, business, web development, digital graphics and writing.

Sharon Himes attended Fairmont State College in Fairmont, WV where she majored in Speech and Drama and minored in art. There her primary interest was theater set design but she was active in all aspects of the wonderful drama department.

After marriage and moving to Maryland, Sharon worked in retail and then radio and television production before purchasing her own business. For fifteen years she and her husband owned and managed the successful art gallery and frame shop, Salisbury Art & Framing in Salisbury, Maryland. They sold the business in 1989 and built Himes' home studio where she explores the nearby Pocomoke Forest and paints Woodland Watercolors.

She is largely a self-taught watercolorist and over the last 35 years developed her own techniques to build layers of delicate color in her paintings. Her work has been featured in American Artist magazine and is widely collected in the region. The book, Watercolor Artists Flower Handbook (Quarto 2006) by Patricia Seligman includes demonstrations and practical advice by thirteen leading floral artists including the chapter: 'Experiencing nature through sketching' by Sharon Himes showing her unique approach to painting wildflowers.

Sharon Himes is a popular speaker and instructor. For several years she taught encouraging hands-on watercolor workshops for artists at all levels, including a popular series of art workshops through the Elderhostel program. While currently not teaching workshops she still writes articles on art and art history for an international audience through the online artists' community she founded in 1995, ArtCafe.Net

Her original paintings are available through regional galleries and her Woodland Watercolors web site includes art techniques and general studio art commentary. Her paintings are now available for Licensing for product design and she has been featured in Art Buyer and Total Art Licensing magazines. Her licensing web site is WoodlandStudio.net
